Iron Sky Tour 2012, IV

Tell you what, it's totally hard to judge those distances in the sand dunes. And it's a nice workout, too - three steps back for every step you take.
But all the sweat was worth something - I discovered a secret that's going to turn the world of historians upside down: Rommel lives - in Colorado! Here's the proof - old desert fox hiding in his flying saucer under one of those giant dunes ... :


 Well, after unearthing this we were in desperate need of some refreshment and I can wholeheartedly recommend Milagros Coffeehouse in Alamosa. I had one of the best iced mochas ever and they had supertasty cinnamon rolls! Go Milagros!

We had not really made up our minds how far we wanted to go west, but with all this lovely food and drink we decided to head straight to Mesa Verde. Turns out that the closest village is Mancos, just a couple of clicks from the NP entrance. The accommodation in the park itself was booked out. So we stayed at the Enchanted Mesa Motel, which is not a chain motel and so refreshingly different. A pity that we only stayed for a night, but I can really, really recommend this place! I was a bit worried about dinner at first, but we followed the Motel owner's recommendation and weren't disappointed - Millwood Junction, nothing fancy, but honest and good and thank you for that! Also, thank you for the toilet paper, dear room maid! It's so easy to get me to tip. :-)

In einem der Tagesspiegelberichte zum S-Bahn Spaß in Berlin findet sich folgender Kommentar des Users "rb", der es aber auch sowas von genau trifft, dass ich ihn einfach mal zitieren muss, ohne weitere eigene Worte: Wahrscheinlich ist da irgendwann mal eine Abordnung dynamischer Schlipsträger durch die Werkstatt gelaufen, wie "Spürhunde" unterwegs nach Einsparpotential. Beauty is not always in the eye of the beholder

 Especially since us nerds all know how dangerous Beholders can be. ;-) Ugly business, that. Some nice things: We watched "Magnus" this weekend and I was positively impressed! The good thing about snow is: It looks pretty, feels good, and Wooster goes craaaaaazy. Schnappi, too, of course. It's the only snow crocodile in the world. And the most dangerous one in the Northern hemisphere.

Gandalf the Pedophile

Driving down south to Kerikeri was beautiful: we took the time to take the scenic coastal route, visiting gazillions of beautiful beaches and inlets. Bliss and joy. KK itself is very nice of course as well, real fruit icecream, need I say more. On a rainy Saturday afternoon we went to Ngawha hot springs, which rocks totally. Basic, ramshackle pools, or rather woodclad holes in the ground with different temperatures between very hot and scorching, after one hour you have a baby's skin again. Amazing. We stayed at the very nice and highly recommendable Kerikeri Farmhostel and the reisebegleitung greatly enjoyed the Kunekune pigs they keep. Before Xmas crazyness took over the whole place we left for Whangarei Heads and that's where the old pedowizard comes in. But more of that tomorrow, I have to and eat one of the best breakfasts of all times now. Just remember: always stay with your arse to the wall when meeting old man with grey beards and pointy hats.
