28.12. - 31.12.2008: Kuaotunu (Coromandel)
The weather is far too good to stay angry for long. Auckland was, as usual, good for acclimatization. City Garden Lodge was, as usual, clean and reasonably quiet. So all quiet on this front.
Having finally gotten a car, picked up all passengers and got a refund from the rental car company we drove to Kuaotunu which is about 11k north of Whitianga. I'd done this drive twice before but I still think it's beautiful. Very scenic which means lovely for the passengers and a bit hard for the poor little driverslave. But still worth it. In Kuaotunu we stayed at BlackJack's Backpackers. Definitiv eines der besten Hostels ever, auf jeden Fall in den Top 3. Eigentlich schon eher Luxusunterkunft. Richtig gute Betten, saubere facilities, direkt am Strand, gute ausgestattete Kueche - was braucht man mehr? Das Autoding hat auch brav gehalten, der Sound ist zwar mediocre, aber dann singe ich halt einfach lauter.
Also, Kuaotunu, BlackJack's Backpackers - merken, hinfahren. Es lohnt. Very nice hosts as well, Carl braut sogar selbst nach doitschem Reinheitsgebot, das ist cultural imperialism at its best!
Ach ja, Cathedral Cove war natuerlich auch wieder veeeery nice. Vor allem, weil kaum Leute am Start waren, macht das Ganze natuerlich angenehmer. I think I gotta take all those pictures from the last couple of years again with my new camera. I bought the Panasonic Lumix G1 before we left and so far it's absolutely worth every penny. Excellent handling, good image quality, small and lightweight. Fuck Spiegelreflex.
Es gab einen Tag Regen am Freitag, was aber zu verkraften war, laeuft man halt durch den Wald. Am Samstag war es dann soweit: Der weltschoenste Koerper wurde groesstenteils entbloesst und der Pazifik genoss die Ehre, den Koerper des Surferkoenigs umspuelen zu duerfen. Dieses Jahr war ich der erste im Wasser :-) .
