Gandalf the Pedophile

Driving down south to Kerikeri was beautiful: we took the time to take the scenic coastal route, visiting gazillions of beautiful beaches and inlets. Bliss and joy. KK itself is very nice of course as well, real fruit icecream, need I say more. On a rainy Saturday afternoon we went to Ngawha hot springs, which rocks totally. Basic, ramshackle pools, or rather woodclad holes in the ground with different temperatures between very hot and scorching, after one hour you have a baby's skin again. Amazing. We stayed at the very nice and highly recommendable Kerikeri Farmhostel and the reisebegleitung greatly enjoyed the Kunekune pigs they keep. Before Xmas crazyness took over the whole place we left for Whangarei Heads and that's where the old pedowizard comes in. But more of that tomorrow, I have to and eat one of the best breakfasts of all times now. Just remember: always stay with your arse to the wall when meeting old man with grey beards and pointy hats.

Ahipara, 90 Mile Beach, Northland, New Zealand Did I say it already? Fuck Cathay Pacific. They haven't yet managed to reply to my complaints. Nevermind. Life's too short anyway. Summer in NZ has been great so far! I somehow managed to drive from Auckland to Ahipara on Wednesday although I had not slept at all, but in the morning my digestive system was back to normal, I was hungry like a wolf and the fine Jamaica Blue Cafe at Auckland airport saved my life. Ahipara is great, basically nothing there but beach and waves, so all you need. We stayed at "Endless Summer Lodge", a hostel in an old Kauri house, right on the beach, extreeeeeemely nice location! Room with seaview, waves lulling you to sleep ... . On Thursday we finally made it up to Cape Reinga, after several failed attempts in the past 8 years ... . The trip is well worth it. While the lighthouse itself is just a blood lighthouse and not even an operating one and I don't give a fuck for any esote...

fuck cathay pacific

I really didn't expect this to happen. We flew from HKG to SYD on Sunday evening. They served dinner shortly after takeoff. So far so good. Food didn't look good, didn't taste good, nothing like the stuff on the first leg. But I was famished and thought, hey, it's airline food after all, not Gordon Ramsay, so I ate it. Big mistake. 90 minutes later I'm starting to feel sick. It was the most horrible flight of my life, I apparently even collapsed in the aisle when I tried to get to the toilet. Cathay, this is called FOOD POISONING and I will get you for this. I somehow made it into Sydney and then basically spent all of Monday in a strange, dreamlike state. After vomitting it all out late in the evening I felt better and could even sleep last night. So today I have started to eat and drink again and am recovering. So for no more vomitting, bowel movements seem to be almost normal. Now sitting in the Qantas lounge, they have huge iMacs and I have plenty of time, so I ...

Hong Kong, crazy but nice

Image
Yo. From the city where they think "last Christmas " is a great song. Especially so when it's really hot outside. They have crazy Xmas decorations everywhere, everything displaying fake Arctic themes seems to be cherished by the locals. Well for my part, I'm happy with 25 degrees in December. Went to Hong Kong park, nice place to chill and relax, birds and turtles everywhere. And fake snowmen. Now back to the airport, shower in the lounge and then off to Sydney for even warmer temperatures. :-)

Hong Kong im winter

Yeah. So mag ich Winter. 22 grad und sonnig. That's how  it goes. Cathay premium eco was pretty fucking awesome, very comfy and great service. HK is nice, wish you could transplant a little bit of  their service attitude to germany  ... .

Finally got around to finishing this. We drove from Mesa Verde to Monticello, Utah and again, there's nothing to complain about. This is really hard for us Germans, we are brought up to whinge and complain and moan and when we finally end up having a good time we are fucked because that's against our nature. So we start a genocide. No, I did not. The people of Monticello are way too nice for that. Very friendly and helpful staff and the info site and at the motel. We managed to get a room at the only non-chain motel in town and it was worth it. Nice pool. Next morning we took off really early because we wanted to hike into Canyonlands NP as early as possible. Half an hour out of town I realized I didn't have enough cash to pay the entrance fee. So we drove back to Monti, got some cash, and then off to Canyonlands only to find out that we needn't have bothered. Well, nevermind. What a beautiful, beautiful landscape. A-mazing. And harsh. We got lost in the desert and were...

Mesa Verde. You can read all about it in Wikipedia, so I'm not going to repeat the obvious. It's fascinating and really, really strange. First of all, it's a rather long drive until you've reached the area where all the action is. There is, of course, a visitor center and you can book a ranger guided tour. So we booked the tour that promised the most excitement in terms of climbing and crawling. But I guess it's all tailored to fat people. There was more safety talk and good advice than steps on the ladder ... . Nevermind, still worth it and I even got to play deputy ranger, yee-ha motherfucker.  I discovered another artifact - no, not Rommel, but Wooster!!! Much more friendly anyway. So we did a couple of hours of hiking and that's really nice, along the side of the cliffs and all, hot and sunny, nice desert flowers, interesting colours ... ... and lizards. I LOVE LIZARDS! :-) Kaufen. Laut aufdrehen und Bass!

Tell you what, it's totally hard to judge those distances in the sand dunes. And it's a nice workout, too - three steps back for every step you take. But all the sweat was worth something - I discovered a secret that's going to turn the world of historians upside down: Rommel lives - in Colorado! Here's the proof - old desert fox hiding in his flying saucer under one of those giant dunes ... :  Well, after unearthing this we were in desperate need of some refreshment and I can wholeheartedly recommend Milagros Coffeehouse in Alamosa . I had one of the best iced mochas ever and they had supertasty cinnamon rolls! Go Milagros! We had not really made up our minds how far we wanted to go west, but with all this lovely food and drink we decided to head straight to Mesa Verde. Turns out that the closest village is Mancos, just a couple of clicks from the NP entrance. The accommodation in the park itself was booked out. So we stayed at the Enchanted Mesa Motel , w...

Ansonsten höre ich grade Songs men have died for - retro style pur.

Iron Sky Tour 2012, III

We did get a pretty cool car. Thank you, Avis. They gave us a brandnew (2 miles on the meter) 2012 Subaru Outback. With Harman Kardon speakers. :-) Buena Vista was nice, right on the foot of the mountains, in the middle of nowhere. Good place to stretch your legs. We stayed for two nights, then got up early and drove south to Great Sand Dunes NP. We stopped by San Luis lake, beautiful panorama but also gazillions of bloodthirsty bugs. You couldn't get out of the car, they would have sucked you dry within seconds. So sand dunes it was. Really strange - you have these giant sand dunes in front of snow capped mountains. But it was absolutely worth it, beautiful scenery and a nice workout. We hiked up the highest dune and I can now totally relate to all those stories of people getting lost in the desert etc. You totally underestimate distances and gradients. And it doesn't really help that you are sinking/slinding back two steps for every step you take. But I liked that. Would be...

18.05.: Denver to Buena Vista Accommodation: Best Western Plus Vista Inn. Food: Mother's Bistro; Eddyline Restaurant & Brewery; The Asian Palate We took off early in the morning towards Great Sand Dunes National Park and stopped for a quick look at The Red Rocks Amphitheater. Wow! I would so love to see a live concert there! By the time we had walked to the top a local Muay Thai Gym was just getting ready for a training session - if I lived there I'd do that all the time. So many steps - ouch!  I challenged them all to single combat and beat them up. We then continued sout-west on Hwy 285, a very nice drive. By the time we had joined Hwy 24, we were both hungry, so we did a short detour and stopped at Buena Vista. Well, suffice to say, we liked the setting so much that we decided to stay for two days and hike around in the Collegiate Peaks. Nice. High. Snow. Unfortunately, there was a major bike race on Saturday, so most accommodation was already booked ou...

15.05. TXL to DIA Accommodation: Victorian Holiday Chalet B&B, East Colfax Ave, Denver. Food: Naked Pizza; Cook's Fresh Market; The Market at Larimer. The flight from TXL to LHR was delayed again, this time due to bad weather though, so not anybody's fault really. We still managed to make the connection to DIA, even found time to grab some food in the lounge before running to the gate. The flight to DIA was in Premium Eco, the whole thing being a companion voucher/mile redemption ticket. BA's planes are lightyears ahead of Lufthansa but looking at what Korean Air, Cathay Pacific, Air New Zealand etc. have done, they seriously need to modernize their cabin interiors in Eco/Premium Eco. Well, einem geschenkten Gaul usw. We arrived in Denver an hour late, but security and all that worked pretty well and we picked up our car from Avis. They gave us a nice upgrade, a completely fresh Subaru Outback, straight out of the factory. Nice. One of those cars that does ever...

Where's your birth certificate?

We are near the end of our vacation here in the US of A. Currently hanging out in the Admiral's Club Lounge at Denver airport and waiting for our flight. We got a complimentary upgrade to business class, which is very nice of British Airways. Thank You! Now, the past two weeks were really great. I will post a detailed report on the weekend, along with some great photos. We started out in Denver, moved on to Buena Vista, the Great Sand Dunes NP, Mancos/Mesa Verde, Monticello/Canyonlands, Moab/Arches, Montrose/Black Canyon, Glenwood Springs, Rocky Mountain National Park and finished our trip in style, in Boulder. If I had to chose one city to live in in the US, Boulder would be a very likely candidate. Great weather all of the time, no serious injuries. We only got lost in the desert once. :-) I killed five rattlesnakes with my psychic powers and subdued one black bear with a mata leao. Another black bear ran away when I told him that I had a BJJ blue belt, hahaha. The only anima...

Obesity

Obesity. Somehow that's the word that comes to my mind most frequently as we travel through Colorado and Utah. And I read somewhere that Colorado it's supposed to be the «fittest» state ... . Well, amazing. You really have to get up between five and six in the morning, otherwise the trails are no fun and completely overrun. Not that most people would get very far because they are ill equipped and unfit, but they make enough nose to chase all the wildlife away. And most people round here don't seem to know the basic hiking etiquette as well. But it's still great fun, we get up early, enjoy the hikes and views and relax. Another strange thing are the tall ratings. We've done a couple of trails rated 'strenuous' but really don't know for whom they would be strenuous. My grandmother perhaps. But then again, every trail where you have to walk more than hundred yards is strenuous if you weigh four hundred pounds, which is the estimated average weight. We hiked...

Bear wrestling galore

Today I've wrestled a black bear to the ground and cooked him out. It was tough but I was too strong for the beast in the end.the bear attacked us out of nowhere so the kill was in self defense, I hope I'm not getting into any trouble with the rangers. Yesterday I defeated three rattlesnakes by chopping their heads off with my supreme and extremely secret wing tsun chops. It's a hard knock life out here in the wilderness but really really beautiful. Blogging with a tablet really sucks though so I guess I will provide a more detailed report once I've got access to a proper keyboard.

Urlaub! Holiday!

Yes. Finally. Colorado, here we come! Stay tuned for hot pics of sexy mountain lions, me wrestling grizzlies to the ground etc. etc. Maybe even surfing, harhar.

Herr Herzog, geh sterben

Herr Herzog, warum so schüchtern? Drecksfaschist, geh sterben.

Why Jack Bauer is a superhero

Having seen and experienced D.C. traffic firsthand now I really do believe that Jack Bauer is a superhero after all. Not even Optimus Prime could have covered the distances in the last season of 24 any faster. Other than that: Americans are strange creatures. ;-) But mostly harmless. ;-)) I was staying at "The W Washington D.C." hotel last week, which is right across the street from the White House. When I got back from the conference on Monday night I had to pass several secret service checkpoints to get into my room - I found out later that Monsieur Obama was holding two campaign events in the hotel. But I didn't see any hookers around. To give credit to the Secret Service guys professionality, they did not even blink when I asked them about where the girls are. They didn't smile either. *g* The hotel had a German guy on duty - tall, with one of those cables growing out of the ear - that felt totally like Die Hard, part two. But nobody got hurt I guess. Die Ko...

The road goes ever on and on ...

Try Again

The Medizinische Abteilung strikes back!

Same old, same old

Fucked up. Und was macht Werder?

Back already

Had to abort vacation last week and return to Germany. Back in bloody Berlin. Cold. Dirty.

Coromandel

The last two days pretty much sum up what NZ is all about: Yesterday it was raining cats and dogs in the morning, billions of liters of water pouring from the sky. Two hours later, shortly before lunchtime, it clears up all of a sudden for a perfectly warm and sunny day. Cathedral Cove at its best. :-) Unfortunately I hurt my left middle finger so no more surf action for the next days. :-( Today a similar picture: Cloudy in the morning, forecast said rains and thunderstorm - we got blue sky and sunshine all day. We went to the Lost Spring in Whitianga  in the afternoon - brilliant. A number of outdoor thermal pools in a "junglestyle" environment, perfect relaxation. You can fart under water and nobody will notice. :-) :-) :-) Lovely. Now I have to catch the sunset at Hahei Beach, be back later. Two words of advice before I go: We cannot  recommend "The Grange" restaurant at Hahei Beach, overpriced uninspired cuisine. And I would also not really recommend ...

This is definitely one of the nicest spots in all NZ. I want to live here. First things first though. Leaving Gizzy was quite hard - it is a really nice spot as well, beautiful beaches, good food, nice people, nice landscape etc etc etc. But the hardest part was the traditional farewell ceremony I have to endure each time I'm leaving town. I had to kiss babies for nearly an hour, working my way through the throng of women, so great was their desire to receive a blessing from the tanmaster ... and I was wondering how many of those kids were mine actually. Nevermind, I have a duty to fulfill and the people of New Zealand have a right to be visited by me so I have to be careful not too linger to long in any town. We drove from Gisborne to Opotiki via SH2 and the Waioeka Gorge. Scenic Drive! Nuff said! We did a little detour though to Motu Falls and walked through the beautiful bush/forest in the Whinray Reserve. ...

I'm going to write more ... later. Have to go eat first. But meanwhile, a photo of the one and only tanmaster mastering the waves of Wainui Beach.

Notstand!

Wainui Beach

Arrived at Wainui Beach, Gisborne today. They had somehow lost my booking so I got a better room for the old price instead. Nice! Right on the beach too. Lots of briliant left-hand breaks here, rolling in. And a completely deserted beach as well. I can't believe my luck. Of course, the moment I took off my shirt and set my longboard down on the sand (what kind of allegory is that now?) people started fighting over the best spots to watch the tanmaster wax his board. Guess I will be quite busy teaching the locals some new tricks over the next three days. I'll post some pictures tomorrow. We've spent two days in Napier before, in a very nice and highly recommendable B&B called "The Green House on the Hill". One of the nicest places I've ever stayed at. And definitely the best mattress! :-) The reisebegleitung liked all the Art Deco stuff, I still find it depressing after 10 minutes or so. But then I'm an ignorant idiot anyway. Another recommendation: D...

Holiday is over

WTF??? 2:2 in Freiburg? You know what? I'm going to the beach right now. Fuck the Bremer Abwehr.

Rain!

But warm. And not real rain. Just a drizzle. It's gonna clear up any minute. ANY MINUTE. I'm sure. Everybody's sure of that. Has been sure for the past three days. The only thing I'm sure of is that it will indeed clean up after we've left tomorrow and that the clouds will follow me to Napier. Because they too love me. I'm a raingod after all. Since I'm so incredibly butch and such a great manly bloke I did not let the rain keep me from exploring the mountain. Didn't go up to the top because that would have been stupid. The forest is truly amazing! Brings out all the hippie genes in me. But only for a millisecond. Gotta finish up now, have to clean my rifle and go rabbit and possum hunting. Kill a couple of God's creatures, just for fun.

Tanmaster is back

One of the nicest thing of each holiday is always then first night's sleep. Having ruined my back and neck (is this cockney for what?) in 646 hours of economy seats, it is so fucking blissful to fall into bed and sleep for twleve hours straight. It's even better to wake up to brilliant sunlight and the sound of waves rolling ashore. For we are in Plimmerton, in one of the nicest hostels in NZ, Moana Lodge. And we do have a room with seaview. Yeah, how about that. I heard there's snow and ice in Germany. :-) :-) :-) Well, Wellington is windy as usual, but a perfect day today. We went to Otari-Wilson's Bush and stretched our legs a bit. On the way back I bought a shirt at a hunting and fishing store, this will raise my already overwhelming levels of testosterone even more. Wellington Police had their hands full keeping the crowds at bay and I had to sign shirts and posters (and breasts) for nearly two hours. Exhausting but worth it - you have to be there for your fans! ...

Gelandet

Beach. Sunshine. Finally. You gotta admire Korean Air for their new econonmy class. We had the pleasure of flying in a newly fitted plane - excellent! I know some airlines that don't reach the same standard in business ... . Fighting the jetlag! Have to stay awake for another hour or so ... .

Finally

Jetzt gehts los. All I have to do is a) get over the pain of separation from Wooster and b) pack my pack. I WANT TO TAKE MY DOG! I'm gonna smuggle him in my backpack. aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Today: TXL -> FRA, then FRA -> INC. Then some delicious Korean food before INC -> AKL -> WEL, arriving Sunday morning local time.

Robert Hartmann ...

Offiziellen".
